The short version

Wait for your results, check each skill against your target, and only then decide. If writing or speaking is just below, re-evaluation is worth a look. If the gap is bigger, a retake with focused practice is usually the better bet.

When results arrive

CELPIP says online results are ready 2 to 4 business days after your test date. If you have an immigration deadline, leave extra time for everything else your application needs.

Re-evaluation

CELPIP lets you ask for writing and speaking to be re-evaluated. It says you'll hear back in about one to two weeks after you apply and pay. Check CELPIP's page for the current fee and rules before you apply.

Deciding on a retake

  • Look at which skill is short, and by how much.
  • Ask what went wrong in that skill. Timing? A task type? Nerves?
  • Practise that skill for a few weeks, then test yourself with a full mock before you book.
  • Don't count on luck. Booking again without changing anything often gives the same result.

Questions

Are the raw-score charts exact?

No. CELPIP calls them approximate. The score needed can change between test versions.

Can I re-evaluate listening or reading?

CELPIP's re-evaluation covers writing and speaking. Check its page for current details.

Will a retake raise my score?

Only if something changes. Find the reason for the miss first.
