The short version
Applying for permanent residence through Express Entry? You need CELPIP-General. Applying for citizenship and aged 18 to 54? Either one works, and LS is the shorter test.
Side by side
| CELPIP-General | CELPIP-General LS | |
|---|---|---|
| Skills | Listening, reading, writing, speaking | Listening and speaking |
| Length | Just under 3 hours | About 1 hour 10 minutes |
| Speaking | 8 recorded tasks | The same 8 recorded tasks |
| Express Entry | Accepted | Not accepted |
| Citizenship | Accepted | Accepted |
Fees and dates are on CELPIP's site.
One thing to be careful about
Don't book LS just because it's shorter. If there's any chance you'll need reading and writing results later, for permanent residence for example, General covers both and saves you a second test.
Questions
Does LS include reading?
No. It's listening and speaking only.
Is LS accepted for Express Entry?
No. IRCC lists CELPIP-General for Express Entry.
